Hersie Lee & Iva Jean Green Scholarship & Grant Program

SCHOLARSHIPS

The Hersie Lee & Iva Jean Green Scholarship was established to provide educational opportunities to felons and former foster children who are continuing their education. We aim to help them land careers in fields of gainful employment so that they can become self-sufficient.

This scholarship provides between $4,000 and $8000 worth of tuition fee assistance to felons, and children who have “aged out” of the foster care system. Participants must provide books and housing with outside funds.

Eligibility

  1. Applicants must be felons, or a persons that have been in foster care that are planning to enroll in an institution of higher learning;
  2. Applicants must have a G.E.D. or high school diploma;
  3. Eligible institutions of higher learning include community colleges, vocational schools, universities, or any type of institution of higher education licensed by the state of Arkansas or any other state or federal entity.

GRANTS

John H. Chafee Foster Care Independence Act of 1999 addressed the challenges faced by young people from foster care with programs to help them transition to adulthood. Drawing from the best practices of Pastor Kelly Green’s work with foster youth, the Hersie Lee & Iva Jean Green Grant (HLIVG) Program was designed as a federally-funded, state-administered initiative to provide funding and support for post-secondary education.

Eligibility

Eligible students may receive grants of up to $2,000 per year for up to five years or until their 26th birthday. HLIVG funds can be combined with our scholarship to minimize or eliminate the need for student loans.
